Urs sharif of Bibi Sayidah Ayesha Siddiqah (R.A)

Urs Sharif is on 17th Ramadan 1438
This is Approx Monday 12th or Tuesday 13 June 2017 Hijri
Bibi Sayidah Ayesha Siddiqah (R.A) was the third lady to enter the house of the Beloved Habib Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him as his wife, and she was the only virgin in the consorts of purity of the Holy Prophet’s Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him house. She was of a tender age when she was married to Allah’s Apostle Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him.
Historical records bear ample testimony to the fact that Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) was a precocious genius and was developing both in mind and body with rapidity peculiar to such rare personalities. This marriage is significant in the history of Islam in so many aspects.
Firstly, it cemented the ties between Sayiduna Rasoolullah Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him and his devoted friend Sayiduna Abu Bakr Siddique (R.A) who always stood by him in hour of trial and who sacrificed his all for the cause of Islam.
Secondly, by this marriage, a lady of eminent qualities came under the direct influence of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him at a highly impressionable age, and this provided her ample opportunities to penetrate into the innermost recesses of the sacred heart of the Beloved Habeeb Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him. She shared his company and thus was able to develop her potentialities and refine her taste perfectly in accordance with the teachings of Islam under the direct supervision of Sayiduna Rasoolullah Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him.
This young age was in fact very opportune for marriage as it has been clearly shown in the researches of psychoanalysts that much of the emotional of a mature person and most of those seemingly unaccountable leanings, tastes and tendencies comprised in the term idiosyncrasies can be traced to the experience of his or her highly formative age of either later childhood or early adolescence.
Thirdly, all the wives of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him with the exception of Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) were of advanced age and thus could neither share the feelings of the younger generation nor could they properly appreciate their point of view. The difference of age always stood as a barrier between them and the ladies of the younger ages. The only lady with whom young women could frankly enter into conversation and discuss problems without any reserve could be none but Sayidah Ayesha (R.A). Thus, the marriage of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him with Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) at an age when she was at the threshold of puberty was a great necessity, as it was through her that instructions could successfully be imparted to the young ladies who had newly entered the fold of Islam.
Moreover, this marriage struck at the root of a wrong notion that had firmly taken hold of the minds of the people that it was contrary to religious ethics to marry the daughter of a man whom one declared to be one’s brother. The Messenger of Allah Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him, with the help of his personal example, showed to the people that there is a great difference between a brother-in-faith and the brother in relation to blood. The marriage, which is forbidden in Islam, is with the daughter of the brother in blood and not with the daughter of the brother-in-faith.
Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) lived on almost fifty years after the passing away of the Messenger of Allah Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him. She passed away in the year 58 A.H. in the month of Ramadan and was buried in the sacred graveyard Baqi al-Garqad of Madinatul Munawwara.
Bibi Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) reported that the Apostle of Allah Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him said:

“I saw you in a dream for three nights when an Angel brought you to me in a silk cloth and he said, ‘Here is your wife’, and when I removed the cloth from your face, it was yourself, so I said, ‘If this is from Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala, let Him carry it out.’”

Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) used to play with dolls in the presence of the Messenger of Allah Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him and when her playmates came to her they left (the house) because they felt shy of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him whereas Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him sent them to her. People sent their gifts when it was the turn of Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) seeking thereby the pleasure of Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him .
Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) said:

“The wives of Allah’s Apostle Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him sent his daughter Fatima (R.A) to him. She sought permission to get in as he had been lying with me in my mantle. He gave her permission and she said: ‘Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him ! Verily, your wives have sent me to you in order to ask you to observe equity in case of the daughter of Abu Quhafah.’ She (Bibi Ayesha -R.A) said: ‘I kept quiet’. Thereupon, Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him said to her (Bibi Fatima -R.A ):
‘O daughter! Don’t you love whom I love?’ She said: ‘Yes, I do’. Thereupon, he said: ‘I love this one (Ayesha)’.

Bibi Fatima (R.A) then stood up as she heard this from her father and went to the wives of Allah’s Apostle Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him and informed them of what she had said to him and what he had said to her. Thereupon, they said to her: ‘We think that you have been of no avail to us. You may again go to Allah’s Apostle and tell him that his wives seek equity in case of the daughter of Abu Quhafah’. Bibi Fatima (R.A) said: ‘By Allah I will never talk to him about this matter’.
Sayidah Ayesha (R.A)  (further) reported:
The wives of Allah’s Apostle Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him then sent Zaynab bint Jahsh (R.A) , the wife of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him , and she was one who was somewhat equal in rank with me in the eyes of the Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him and I have never seen a woman more advanced in religious piety than Zaynab (R.A) , more Allah-conscious, more truthful, more alive to the ties of blood, more generous and having more sense of self-sacrifice in practical life and having more charitable disposition and thus more close to Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala, the Exalted, than her. She however lost temper very soon but was soon calm. Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him permitted her to enter as she (Ayesha R.A) was along with Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him in her mantle, in the same very state when Fatima (R.A) had entered. She said: ‘Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him , your wives have sent me to you seeking equity in case of the daughter of Abu Quhafah’. She then came to me and showed harshness to me and I was seeing the eyes of Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him whether he would permit me. Zaynab (R.A) went on until I came to know that Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him would not disapprove if I retorted. Then I exchanged hot words until I made her quiet. Thereupon, the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him smiled and said: ‘She is the daughter of Abu Bakr (R.A) ’”.
This Hadith gives a clear glimpse of the home life of the Glorious Messenger of Allah Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him. The wives of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him were all eminent ladies having deep Allah-consciousness, but they, after all, belonged to the human race and thus, could not completely banish those minor human weaknesses, which are ingrained in the very nature of the fair sex. They were all deeply attached to the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him and every one of them had, therefore, an earnest desire that she should get the maximum love and affection from the Prophet of Allah Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him. It was out of this spirit of envy, rather than jealousy, that they put forward this demand. It was a natural expression of their humanly feelings born of their love for the Beloved Habeeb Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him , and not an objection against the attitude and behavior of the “Mercy of the Worlds”. And they could not even conceive of it; and how could they, when all of them had been receiving the most beneficent treatment at his hand?
Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) reported:
“When the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him set out on a journey, he used to cast lots amongst his wives. Once this lot came out in my favour and that of Hafsa (R.A). They (Hafsa (R.A) and Ayesha (R.A) ) both went along with him and when it was night Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him used to travel on camel along with Ayesha (R.A) and talked with her. Hafsa (R.A) said to Ayesha (R.A) : ‘Would you like to ride upon my camel tonight and allow me to ride upon your camel and you would see (what you generally do not see) and I would see (what I do not see) generally?’ She said: ‘Yes’. But, Ayesha (R.A) rode upon the camel of Hafsa (R.A) and Hafsa (R.A) rode upon the camel of Ayesha (R.A) and Allah’s Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him came near the camel of Ayesha (R.A) , (whereas) Hafsa (R.A) had been riding over that. He greeted her and then rode with her until they came down. She (Ayesha (R.A) ) thus missed the company of the Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him and when they sat down, Ayesha (R.A) felt jealous. She put her foot in the grass and said: ‘O ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala , let the scorpion sting me or a serpent bite me. And so far as Your Messenger Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him is concerned, I cannot say anything about him’”.
Sayiduna Anas bin Maalik (R.A) has said:
“The Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him said that the excellence of Ayesha over women is like the excellence of Tharid over all other foods.”
Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) is one of the four persons (the others being Sayiduna Abu Hurayra (R.A) , Sayiduna Abdullah bin Omar (R.A) and Sayiduna Anas bin Maalik (R.A) ) who transmitted more than two thousand sayings of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him. The Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him referring to her extensive knowledge of Islam is reported to have said:
“Learn a portion of your religion from this Humayra (red coloured lady).”
Sayidah Ayesha (R.A) not only possessed great knowledge but also took an active part in education and social reform. As a teacher she had a clear and persuasive manner of speech and her power of oratory has been described in superlative terms. Men and women came from far and wide to benefit from her knowledge.
According to the Orientalist, D.S. Margoliouth, he wrote:
“Of the entire number of inmates, Lady Ayesha alone, by force of character and keenness of wit, won for herself a place in the political and religious history of Islam.” [Quoted by Fida Hussain Maalik in his book, ‘Wives of the Prophet’, Bombay, 1989, Page 124]
Pearls of Wisdom by Sayida Ayesha as-Siddiqah
To spend for your guests is not extravagance.Good deeds are to refrain from bad deeds.A believer of truth never becomes disgrace even if the whole World turns against him while a believer in falsehood never gains respect even if the moon comes out on his forehead.Wherever the torch of truth shines it is advantageous to all, and it must not be seen who the torchbearer is.A very good trait of character is to protect your tongue. When the stomach becomes full the faculty of thought becomes weak and wisdom and understanding become mute.Gluttony is the root of all illnesses and abstinence is its remedy.Magnificence is gained in 1% friendship and 99% hard work and physical exertion.

URS of Bibi Khadijah-tul-Kubra (R.A.)

10th Ramadan 1438 Hijri
This is Approx Monday 5th or Tuesday 6th  June 2017
(Depending on Lunar date of your country).
Bibi Khadijah-tul-Kubra (R.A.) the most beloved wife of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) and the mother of Bibi Fatima-al-Zahra(R.A),the only daughter of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) passed away on 10th Ramadan in Makkah three years before the Hijrah of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) from Makkah to Madinah.
Bibi Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) provides a complete beacon of light for today’s women.
Khadijah (1)
She was a wealthy woman and big trader of the Arab but she devoted her entire riches to the cause of Islam and the Holy Prophet (SAW). She faced every difficulty with forbearance for the sake of Allah and His Prophet (SAW).
Bibi Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) was a person who devoted herself to worship and remained consistent in the face of difficult times despite being rich. She embraced Islam at a time when no other person was ready to do so.
Bibi Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) gave unflinching support and encouragement to the Holy Prophet (SAW) when people would create difficulties for him. She possessed excellence character and was known as Tahira for her piety. She said that if we wanted to put our lives on the path of piety and good works, we would have to receive light from the life of Hazrat Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) because her life is an ideal for our guidance.
Bibi Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) was an honest, brave and generous woman who stood by the Prophet of Islam (SAW) through thick and thin. It is the privilege and honour of Bibi Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) that she gave birth to the Prophet’s daughter Bibi Fatima (RA). After her death, the tears would come to the eyes of the Holy Prophet (SAW) whenever her name was mentioned. The Holy Prophet (SAW) would remember her services for the cause of Islam and pay her tribute.
Holy Prophet (SAW) would feel aggrieved and pained due to sufferings created by the infidels, her sight would be a source of comfort for the Prophet (SAW). He (SAW) would forget his pain and difficulties and become happy the moment he would meet her. Bibi Sayyida Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) loved the Holy Prophet (SAW) most dearly, provided all the means for the ease, happiness and comfort of the Holy Prophet, so much so that she put all her resources at the disposal of the Prophet (SAW). She sank her likes and dislikes in the likes and dislikes of the Holy Prophet (SAW).
Allah Almighty sent greetings for Bibi Sayyida Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) during her life at the hands of Hazrat Jabrail (AS) and gave her glad tidings of a beautiful palace in Paradise. The Holy Prophet (SAW) would often remember Hazrat Khadija (RA). There can be no greater argument in favour of her status and prestige in the eyes of the Holy Prophet (SAW) than this that they did not enter into marriage with any other woman during the former’s life.
As long as Bibi Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA) lived, the Holy Prophet (SAW) did not contract second marriage in her presence
The words the Holy Prophet (SAW) expressed to describe her exemplary sacrifices represent his love for her. He (SAW) said:

“By God, Khadija believed in me at a time when people rejected me. Khadija gave me place when people refused to accommodate me with them and Khadija (RA) gave me children.”

Fatemieh Dovom 93
3rd Ramadan 1438H
(Approx on Monday 29th or Tuesday 30th May 2017  )
(Depending on Lunar date of your country).

This Fathia (Tribute / Commemoration Prayer) of Bibi Fatima-al-Zahra (R.A) will takes place in Ajmer Sharif on the above date.
Fatimah (R.A) was the beloved daughter of our dear Prophet Muhammad (PBUT) and Khadijah(R.A), Fatimah (R.A) was the wife of Ali (R.A) and mother of Hassan (R.A) and Hussein(R.A), and one of the five members of Ahl al-Bayt..
She became the object of great veneration by all Muslims, because she lived closest to her father and supported him in his difficulties and because of historical importance of her husband and her two sons, and that she is the only member of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUT) family that gave our beloved prophet descendants, numerously spread through the Islamic world.
For Muslims, Fatimah is an inspiring example and Fatimah is one of the most popular girl’s names throughout the Muslim world She died a few months after her father’s death, and was buried in Jannat Al-Baqi’, but the exact location of her grave is unknown. Fatimah(R.A) was born in Mecca to Khadija, the first wife of prophet Muhammad(PBUT).
Fatimah(R.A) is given many titles by Muslims to show their admiration of her moral and physical characteristics. The most used title is “al-Zahra”, meaning “the shining one”, and she is commonly referred to as Fatimah Zahra. She was also known as “al-Batul” (the chaste and pure one) as she spent much of her time in prayer, reciting the Qur’an and in other acts of worship. According to tradition, on one occasion while Prophet Muhammad (PBUT) were performing the salah (prayer) in the Kaaba, Amr ibn Hishām (Abu Jahl) and his men poured camel placenta over him. Fatimah (R.A), upon hearing the news, rushed to her father and wiped away the filth while scolding the men.

Sufis consider Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) the fourth and final of the Rashideen (Rightly guided Caliphs).
His father was Abu Talib and his mother was Fatima bint Asad, but he was raised in the household of Prophet Muhammad (PBUT), who themselves were raised by Abu Talib, Muhammad’s (PBUT) uncle, and Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu)’s father.
When prophet Muhammad (PBUT) reported receiving a divine revelation, Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) was the first male to accept his message, dedicating his life to the cause of Islam.
Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) migrated to Medina shortly after Prophet Muhammad (PBUT) did. Once there Prophet Muhammad (PBUT) told Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) that God had ordered him to give his daughter, Fatimah, to Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) in marriage.
Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) was appointed Caliph by the Companions (the Sahaba) of Prophet Muhammad (PBUT) in Medina after the assassination of the third caliph, Uthman ibn Affan.
He encountered defiance and civil war during his reign.
in 661, Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) was attacked one morning while praying in the mosque of Kufa, and died a few days later.
In Sufi  culture, Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) is respected for his courage, knowledge, belief, honesty, unbending devotion to Islam, deep loyalty to Prophet Muhammad (PBUT), equal treatment of all Muslims and generosity in forgiving his defeated enemies, and therefore is central to mystical traditions in Islam such as Sufism.

Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu) holds a high position in almost all Sufi orders which trace their lineage through him to Prophet Muhammad (PBUT). Hazrat Ali (Karam Allah-Wajhu)’s influence has been important throughout Islamic history.

Introduction of Imam Jaffar Sadiq

HIS POSITION IN THE SILSILA: Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu is the Sixth Imam and Shaykh of the Silsila Aaliyah Qadiriyah Barakatiyah Ridawiyyah Nooriyah. Much has been said in his praise by many great scholars.BIRTH: He was born on a Monday, the 7th of Rabi ul Awwal in either 80 or 83 Hijri in Madinah Munawwarah. [Masaalik as-Saalikeen, Vol.1, Page 217]
HIS NAME: His name was Jaafar bin Muhammad, and he was also known as Abu Abdullah and Abu Ismaeel. His titles were Saadiq, Faadil and Taahir.
HIS MOTHER: His mother’s name was Umm-e-Fardah who was the daughter of Hadrat Qasim Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu, the grandson of Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu and Hadrat Qasim’s Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu mother, A’asma Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu is the daughter of Hadrat Abdur Rahmaan, the son of Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu.
HIS FEATURES: He was very handsome and had a radiant appearance. He had the perfect height, and was tan in complexion. He encompassed the exemplary qualities his forefathers. Haafiz Abu Nuaim Isfahani narrates in Khalifatul Abraar on the authority of Umar bin Midqaam, “When I used to look at Hadrat Imam Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu then I used to immediately feel that he was from amongst the descendants of the Prophets”
EXCELLENCE: He was without doubt the true successor to the Muslim empire and one of the greatest Imams of his era. Imam Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu was a great Aabid and Sufi. Many secrets of Tasawwuf were explained by him. It is in Tabqaatul Abraar, that he received the authority of Hadith from his blessed father, from Imam Zuhri and Naaf’i and ibn Munkadir etc. and Sufyaan Sawri, Ibn Ainiyyah, Shu’ba, Yahya Al Qataan, Imam Maalik and his son Imam Moosa Kaazim (ridwaanullahi ta aala alaihim ajmaeen) attained this authority of Hadith from him. Allama Ibn Hajar Makki Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu writes in Sawaa’iq Muhariqa . “The exalted Imams such as Yahya Bin Saeed, Ibn Jareeh, Imam Maalik ibn Anas, Imam Sufyaan Sawri, Sufyan bin Ainiyyah, Imam Abu Hanifa and Abu Ayoob Sajistani (ridwaanullahi ta aala alaihim ajmaeen) took Hadith from him.”[Masaalik as-Saalikeen]
HIS CHARACTER: He was a very exalted and pious personality. His inner and outer appearance exuded brightness and radiance. He addressed the poor and the downtrodden with great love. Once he called all his servants and said, “Let us give our hands in the hands of one another and promise that whichever one of us first receives salvation on the day of Qiyaamah, he will intercede for the rest of us.” On hearing this, they said, “O Ibn Rasool SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam! For what reason do you need our intercession, when your beloved forefather Rasoolullah SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam will intercede for the entire creation?” He then said, “I am ashamed to take my deeds and stand before my forefather, the Holy Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam.”
Once Hadrat Dawood Taa’ee Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu came to Hadrat Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu and said, “Beloved descendant of the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam please give some advice, as my heart has become dark.” Hadrat Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu said, “O Abu Sulaiman! You are great Zaahid of your era. What need do you have for my advice?” Hadrat Dawood Taa’ee Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu said, “O descendant of the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam, You have been blessed with excellence amongst people and to advise everyone is compulsory upon you.” He then said, “O Abu Sulaiman! I fear that on the day of Qiyaamah, my forefather Muhammadur Rasoolullah SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam will hold me by my collar and ask, ‘Why were you slow in fulfilling your right to submission?’ What will I say then? Thus, this deed (of advice) does not depend on ones stature or family lineage, but it deals with good deeds which are done in the Court of Allah.” Hadrat Dawood Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu heard this and began to weep. He then said, “O Allah! When such a great personality, who is the descendant of a Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam, and whose reality is filled with light and wisdom, and whose great grandmother is Bibi Faatima, is so afraid of his future and condition, then what right does Dawood Taa’ee have do be proud of his deeds?” [Masaalik as-Saalikeen]
HIS IBAADAT: He was well known for his ibaadat, and his striving in the Court of Allah. Hadrat Imam Malik Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu says, “I spent a very long time serving him, and I always found him in one of three Ibaadats. Either he was in namaaz, or engrossed in recitation of the Quran, or he would be fasting.” He never narrated any Hadith Shareef without wudhu. [Tazkirat al-Awliyah]
HIS DUA: He was without doubt a faithful servant of Allah, and he always attained everything that he asked for from the Court of Allah. Abul Qasim Tabri narrates from Wahab, that he heard Laith bin Sa’ad Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu saying, “I was on my way to Hajj by foot in 113 Hijri and I reached Makkah Muazammah. I reached Jabl Abu Qais close to the time of Asr Salaah. There, I saw a pious man sitting (in seclusion), making dua. He was saying ‘Ya Rabbi Ya Rabbi’ so many times, that breathing became difficult. Then in the same way, he said ‘Ya Hayy Ya Hayy’ then ‘Ya Rab’bahu Ya Rab’bahu, then in the same say, he said ‘Ya Allah Ya Allah’ in one breath continuously. He then said ‘Ya Rahmaanu Ya Rahmaanu, Ya Raheemu Ya Raheemu’ and then he went on to say ‘Ya Arhamar Raahimeen’. He then said, “O Allah I desire to eat grapes. Please bless me with some, and my clothes have become old and tattered Please give me new ones.”
Hadrat Laith says, “By Allah, he was still competing his dua, when I saw a basket of grapes kept before him, whereas it was not event the grape season and I did not see an grapes near him before his dua. I also saw that there were two pieces of cloth kept near the grapes. I have never seen such beautiful material before. He then sat down to eat the grapes. I went up to him and said, Huzoor! May I also have a part in this?, and he asked how this was so, so I said, I was saying Aameen as you made the dua. He said, ‘Well then, step forward and join me.’ I also began to partake in the grapes. They were so tasty, that never have I eaten such delicious grapes. I ate until I was satisfied, but the basket still remained as it was before, full of grapes. He then offered on piece of cloth to me, and I said that I had no need for it, so he tied one around his waist, and he draped the other over his shoulder. He then descended from the mountain and I followed him. As he drew close to Saffa and Marwa, a beggar called out to him and said, ‘O Descendant of the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam! Give these clothes to me and Allah will dress you in the clothes of Jannat.” He immediately gave the two pieces of cloth to the beggar. (On seeing this), I enquired about the identity of this pious man from the beggar, who informed me that he was Hadrat Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu. I then looked for him so that I may listen to some words of wisdom from him and attain his blessings, but he had disappeared from my sight.” [Tazkirat al-Awliyah, Page 12]
Once, some people saw that Hadrat Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu was wearing a very expensive robe. One of them walked up to him and said, “Huzoor! It is not good for the Ahle Bait to wear such expensive clothing.” He caught hold of the man’s hand and thrust it into his sleeves. The man was amazed when he found that a Hadrat was wearing clothes make from sacks under his robe. Hadrat Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu then said, “The one inside is for my Creator and the one on top is for the creation.”
A man once lost his purse which contained one thousand dinaars. Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu was walking close to him, so he held the hand of the Imam and accused him of stealing his money. Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu asked how much he had in his money bag, and the man said that he had one thousand dinaars. Hadrat took him home and gave him one thousand dinaars from his wealth. The next day, the man found his money bag, and came rushing to Hadrat Imam Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu to return the money he had taken from him. Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu said, “We do not take back what we have already given.” The man then asked some people who this person was, and he was told that it was Hadrat Imam Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu. When he heard this, he became very sad and regretted his behavior. [Tazkirat al-Awliyah]
DEBATE WITH AN ATHEIST: Hadrat Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu spent a lot of his time spreading the word of Allah and His Rasool SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam. He always spoke against those who did not believe in Allah. An atheist from Egypt came to Hadrat Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu whilst he was in Makkah. Hadrat Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu asked his name and he said that his name was Abdul Malik and he was also known as Abdullah. On hearing this Hadrat said, “Malik, whose servant you are, is he from the Kingdom of the Skies or the Kingdom of the earth, the Lord that is the Lord of your son, is he the Lord of the skies or the Lord of the Earths?” The atheist could not answer this question. Hadrat then said, “Did you ever journey under the earth? Do you know what is beyond it?” He replied in the negative and said, “I think there is nothing beyond it.” Hadrat then said to him, “Thinking is not sufficient! However, have you ever flown into the skies and journeyed beyond the skies?” Again he replied in the negative. Hadrat said, “Did you ever travel the entire East and West and did you realise anything about the future from this?” Again he answered in the negative. Hadrat said, “I am amazed, that you are not aware of the earth and what is beneath it, and the sky and what is beyond it, and in this state of ignorance, you still have the arrogance to reject the existence of Allah. O Ignorant man! There is no argument for one who is naive about that which is a reality. The sun, the moon, the night and day, are all in a specific pattern. Verily they are within some divine control. If they were free, then they would move as they willed and would sometimes go to an appointed spot and not return. Why is it that the night does not take the place of day and the day does not take the place of night? Do you not ponder upon the reality of the skies and the earth? Why does the sky not come to the earth and why is it that the earth is not flattened by the sky? There is definitely ONE, who has all this in His Divine Control. It is He (Allah) who is All Powerful. It is He, who is our and their Lord.” When the atheist heard this, he immediately accepted Islam and had faith in the existence of Allah.
HADRAT BAYAZEED BUSTAAMI: Hadrat Ba Yazeed Bustaami Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu used to distribute water in the Darbaar of Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu. Hadrat placed his saintly sight on Hadrat Bayazeed Bustaami Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu once, and he became one of the greatest mystics of his time. He then served in the Court of Hadrat Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu and became one of the greatest Awliyah.
IMAM-E-AZAM ABU HANIFA: Hadrat Imam Azam Abu Hanifa Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu attained great blessings from Hadrat Imam Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu. It is narrated that once he asked Imam Abu Hanifa Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu concerning who is an intelligent person. Hadrat Imam Abu Hanifa Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu said, “He who can differentiate between good and evil is an intelligent man.” Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu said, “Even animals have the ability to differentiate. It can differentiate between those who love them, beat them or instill fear in them?” Imam Abu Hanifa Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu then said, “O Hadrat! Would you please explain who is truly intelligent?” Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu said, “An intelligent person, is one who can differentiate between two good things and two evils, so that he may choose the better of two good things and that he may be able to repel the worse of two evils.”
SHAYKH-E-TARIQAT: He was the mureed and Khalifa of Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Baaqir Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu and attained great blessings from his beloved father.

BOOKS AND TREATIES: Hadrat has also written books on numerous topics, as mentioned by scholars like Imam Kamaaludeen etc.
KARAAMATS: Hadrat Imam Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu is an example for Muslims in every way. His greatest Karaamat was his firmness on the Shariat. His every step was in accordance with the Sunnat of the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam. A few of his Karaamats are being quoted below.A MANSION IN JANNAH: Once, a man came to Hadrat Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu before journeying for Hajj. He gave Hadrat 10,000 dirhams, and asked him to purchase a mansion for him before he returned. Instead of purchasing a mansion, Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu distributed the entire 10,000 dirhams in the way of Allah. After the man returned from Hajj, he went to meet Hadrat Imam Jaafar Saadiq Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu. Hadrat Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu told him that he had purchased his mansion and then handed the title deed over to him. The title deed read as follows : “One wall of the house is adjoined to the house of the Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam, the other wall is adjoined to the house of Hadrat Ali Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu, the third wall is adjoined to the house of Imam Hassan Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu and the fourth wall is adjoined to the house of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu.” The man took this title deed, and asked his family members to place it in his grave when he passed away. After his demise, his family members found the title deed on the top of his grave and on the rear of the title deed the following words were written,

“Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu was honest and loyal in what he said.” [Masaalik as-Saalikeen, Vol.1, Page 220]

AMAZING INCIDENT: Once, he was on his way to Hajj, when he stopped to rest under a date tree which was completely dried out. At the time of Chasht, he asked the tree to present him with some dates. Immediately, the tree became green and lush and full of dates. Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu then ate from it. A villager was passing by and saw this. He saw this great karaamat and said that it was magic. Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu said,

“This is not magic. Almighty Allah has blessed me with such a quality, that he accepts all my duas. If I make dua, even you can be transformed into a dog.” Hadrat had not yet completed what he was saying, when the villager began to resemble a dog. He quickly repented and asked Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu to forgive him. Hadrat made dua for him, and he was transformed to his normal self. [Masaalik as-Saalikeen, Vol.1, Page 223]

KHALIFA MANSOOR: Khalifa Mansoor once sent one of his ministers to summon Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu to his Court. He informed his servants that when Imam Jaafar arrived, they should wait for him (Mansoor) to remove his crown. The moment he did this, they should martyr Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu. When the minister heard this, he was not pleased and thus tried to explain to Mansoor, how wrong it was to kill a pious person, who is also a Sayyid. The Khalifa did not take heed and had Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu summoned. When Hadrat Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu arrived, the servants waited for their cue, so that they may martyr Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu. Instead, Mansoor woke up from his throne and rushed towards the Imam. He brought him towards his throne and allowed him to sit on it with great respect, whilst he sat on the ground in front of the great Imam. The servants and ministers were surprised to see this sudden change in plan. Mansoor then asked the Imam if he had any requests. Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu said,”In future you should not summon me to your court, as I wish to remain engrossed in Ibaadat.”
When he heard these words, his body began to tremble and he allowed the Imam to leave with respect. When the Imam left, the minister asked about the sudden change in plan and Mansoor said, “When Imam Jaafar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu entered my court, I saw a huge python with him. The python had its one lip over my throne and one under my throne, and it spoke to me and said that if I tried to ever harm the Imam, then he would consume me with my throne, and that is why I behaved in the manner which I did.”
HIS CHILDREN: He was blessed with six sons and one daughter. Their names are :

1. Hadrat Ismaeel
2. Hadrat Muhammad
3. Hadrat Ali
4. Hadrat Abdullah
5. Hadrat Ishaaq
6. Hadrat Moosa Kaazim

2. Hadrat Imam Azam Abu Hanifa Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu
3. Hadrat Sultaan Bayazeed Bustaami Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu

WISAAL: He passed away during the rule of the second Abbasi Khalifa Abu Jaafar Mansoor bin Abul Abbas As Safah In Rajab 148 Hijri at the age of 68 in Madinatul Munawwarah. [Masaalik as-Saalikeen, Vol.1, Page 217]
MAZAAR SHAREEF: His Mazaar Shareef is in Jannat al-Baqi in Madinatul Munawwarah.

The Urs of Imaam Hussain (Karbala) will be on 10th Muharram  1438Hijri
This will be on approx Wednesday 12th October 2016
The Day of Ashura is on the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and marks a very important day of the Mourning of Muharram.
Day of Ashura is commemorated by Muslims as a day of mourning for the death of Hazrat Hussain ibn Ali ( R.A), the grandson of the Final Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be Upon them) at the Battle of Karbala on 10 Muharram in the year 61 AH.In some  regions of Muslim countries such as Afghanistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Lebanon, Bahrain, and Pakistan, the Commemoration of Hazrat Hussain ibn Ali ( R.A) has become a national holiday and most ethnic and religious communities participate in it. Even in predominantly Hindu majority but secular country like India, Ashura (10th day in the month of Muharram) is a public holiday.
According to  Muslim tradition, Ibn Abbas narrates that the blessed Prophet  Muhammad (PBUT) came to Madina and saw the Jews fasting on the tenth day of Muharram. He asked, “What is this?” They said, “This is a good day, this is the day when Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy and Musa (Moses) fasted on this day.” So he fasted on this day and told the people to fast.
Hazrat Hussain (R.A) gave everything he had, including his life, for the greater good and for the benefit of those around him, and his epic legacy continues to inspire millions across the world on a daily basis.
Hazrat Hussain ibn Ali (R.A) was born in 620 AD to a family famed for their values of equality, love and peace. Raised by his grandfather, Prophet Muhammad (the last prophet of Islam, Peace be upon them), Hazrat Hussain (R.A) was known for his integrity, generosity of spirit and blindness to colour and social class. It was for this reason that people flocked to him and his family.

  • Hazrat Hussain (R.A) was a man of great love and compassion

Despite cultural expectations of him as a ‘prince’ of his tribe and a prominent figure in the Islamic Empire, Hazrat Hussain (R.A) would shun the grandeur of his status in favour of breaking bread with the poor and needy. He broke all cultural moulds, brought people together and helped where he could. A celebrated example was when he and his brother Hazrat Hassan (R.A) cared tirelessly for a poor blind man they came upon in their city, in spite of traditional social expectations.
Not long after the passing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUT), the leadership of the vast Islamic Empire had fallen into the hands of the corrupt. The good values that Prophet Muhammad (PBUT) had spent their life instilling into society was slowly eradicated as the new ruler, Yazid, from the Ummayad dynasty was determined to gain complete control.

  • Hazrat Hussain (R.A) witnessed the fundamental human rights of his fellow citizens being usurped and the morality from his society being drained under Yazid’s rule. He knew something had to be done.

Yazid ruled with an iron fist and demanded Hazrat Hussain (R.A) pay him an oath of allegiance, to lend credibility to his rule or be killed. It was here Hazrat Hussain (R.A) faced his dilemma… Should he give his oath of allegiance to a tyrant – and stand aside as the people around him were being oppressed? Or should he make a stand and risk great personal loss?
The timeless words of his grandfather blessed Propeht Muhammad (PBUT) echoed in his heart, and Hussain knew what he had to do: “The greatest stand is to speak the word of truth in the face of a tyrant.”

  • Hussain made the ultimate sacrifice

Hazrat Hussain (R.A)  chose to take a stand against Yazid and was forced to leave his home city under the threat of assassination by Yazid’s men. Along with his family and loyal companions, Hussain (R.A) made his way towards the East in an attempt to avoid and violence. It was on this journey Hussain (R.A), his family and companions were forced to stop by an army of over 30,000, on the hot plains of a land called Karbala.
Hussain (R.A) chose to take what was the macrocosm of his life and demonstrate it in a single act of extraordinary devotion. In 680 AD, after three days of no water and food in the scorching heat on the deserts of modern day Iraq, Hazrat  Hussain (R.A) stood and fell valiantly to defend those around him being oppressed and whilst standing for his principles. What’s all the more extraordinary is Harat Hussain (R.A) chose to stand against this mammoth army despite having only 72 companions with him
No more than 60 years had passed since the death of Muhammad (the last prophet of Islam), and the Muslim Empire was sliding into corruption under a tyrant from the Ummayad dynasty, Yazid.
Hussain ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad took a stand against Yazid’s illegitimate rule. Whilst Yazid was in equal parts feared and despised for his ruthlessness, Hussain was admired and respected by society at large. Mindful of this, Yazid decided that he would demand Hussain’s allegiance, hoping to gain some form of legitimacy for his inherited rule.

  • Hussain’s stand

Hussain had a choice to make. To endorse Yazid would no doubt mean a handsome reward and a life of luxury. To refuse would invariably lead to his own demise. What should he do? For Hussain the choice between the easy way and the right way was no choice at all. Hussain refused. He said:
I will never give Yazid my hand like a man who has been humiliated, nor will I flee like a slave… I have not risen to spread evil or to show off…
Rather, I have left to restore the teachings of my grandfather Muhammad… And I only desire to enjoin good values and prevent evil…

  • The journey from Mecca to Kufa

His life now under threat, Hussain decided to move himself and his family to Mecca in the hope that Yazid’s agents would respect the holy city. As he waited, pondering his next move, messages of support began to arrive from across the empire. He left for Kufa, a city in modern day Iraq, but en route, he wasintercepted by a battalion of government soldiers, who blocked Hussain and his supporters from going towards Kufa and instead forcibly diverted towards the desert town of Karbala.
Once they reached Karbala, government forces surrounded their small band and blocked their access to the water supply. With both camps stationed at Karbala, a stalemate ensued. Hussain had made it clear that he could not, and would not, bow to Yazid. The opposing forces of 30,000 soldiers, which vastly outnumbered Hussain’s small band of seventy-two men and their families, were under strict orders not to let Hussain leave, but at the same time were loath to kill a man whose status and reputation they were well aware of.
After a week, word reached Hussain that Yazid had sent orders that he was not to be allowed to leave Karbala until he had taken an oath of allegiance. The end was drawing close.

  • The final night

That night Hussain assembled his group, stressing to them that it was his life that Yazid wanted and that they might be able to escape. Again, Hussain’s selflessness shone through. There he stood, amongst his family and companions, all having been deprived of water in the scorching desert for three days, pleading with them to leave him and save themselves!
After a few days of this stalemate, the government forces were commanded to attack and kill Hussain and his companions. Hussain’s men were vastly outnumbered. One by one, they were killed, and the government forces massed around Hussain, eventually killing him.

  • ‘Death with dignity is better than a life of humiliation’

After his death, the women and children from Hussain’s party were taken captive. His sister, Zainab, took up the mantle of leadership of the small band, and gave speech after speech condemning the actions of Yazid and his government, culminating in a confrontation in the ruler’s own court. Zainab was perhaps the first person to be inspired by Hussain’s stand, using it as a catalyst for change. She refused to be subdued and put her fear to one side so she could hold to account those responsible for the moral decay of society.
Despite the pervasive sexism of society at the time, Zainab managed to lead and inspire both men and women. Hussain’s example, that one man can stand alone against an army of thousands, inspired her to the point where she castigated and berated a murderous dictator in his own palace, laying the foundations for the eventual overthrow of  the Ummayid dynasty.
Today millions of people pay homage to Hussain ibn Ali for his stand and annually mourn the tragic Battle of Karbala in which Hussain, his family and loyal companions were brutally killed one by one. Pilgrims from all walks of life visit the Imam Hussain shrine to pay their respects in the city of Karbala, Iraq,

  • Hussain’s legacy of compassion and integrity lives on

Through this tragic end but heroic act of sacrifice, Hussain inspired millions around the world. His legacy is that despite being killed for what he stood for, ultimately he was victorious as his death became the catalyst for changes and led to the collapse of Yazid’s tyrannic rule

Urs of Hz. Imam Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)

Urs Sharif is on 21st Ramadan 1437H

This is approx 27th Monday June 2016

After Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) passed away, Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) was elected as the fourth Caliph by the Muslims. During the period of the first three Caliphs, Madinatul Munawwarah continued to be the capital of the Muslim world, but Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) transferred the Islamic capital to Kufah in Iraq.
Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)was the son of Abu Taalib, an uncle of Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)was married to Sayyadah Bibi Fathima (radi Allahu anha), the daughter of Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). They had 3 sons, Sayyiduna Hassan, Sayyiduna Hussain and Sayyiduna Mohsin (radi Allahu anhumul ajma’in).Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)took part in the battle of Badr, Khandaq and Khaibar. At Khaibar, it was Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)who subdued the Jews with his furious assault. He also held many important positions during the time of Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and the first 3 Caliphs before him.
He had a love for learning and was a great and learned person himself. He had been given the title of “Baabul I’lm” or “Gate of Learning” by Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). He was also called “Asaadullah” or “Lion of Allah.”
The situation in Madinatul Munawwarah after the murder (Shahaadah) of Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) was serious. Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu’s) first task was to rid Madinatul Munawwarah of the rebels and to return the situation to normal.
Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)was able to force the rebels to withdraw from Madinatul Munawwarah and to establish peace and order in the city. The powerful governor of Syria, Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (radi Allahu anhu), challenged Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)and refused to pay homage to him. Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (radi Allahu anhu) insisted that Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)arrest the murderers of Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) and hand them over to him.
Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)was a man with a deep sense of justice and did not want to accuse the wrong people. He needed a peaceful period to trace the culprits. But, Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (radi Allahu anhu) began accusing him of protecting the murderers, and in this way the old enmity between the two families were revived.
Unlike most of Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (radi Allahu anhu’s) governors, Sayyiduna Muaawiyah (radi Allahu anhu) displayed great administrative ability and was very popular. He was a God-fearing man and especially known for his mercy. Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)was very strict in piety and straight forward. Sayyiduna Muaawiyah (radi Allahu anhu) declared his disobedience to him, because he felt that he was better qualified to lead the Muslim world.
Another serious development took place. Sayyadah Aishah (radi Allahu anha) and two leading Sahaba, Sayyiduna Talha and Sayyiduna Zubair (radi Allahu anhuma) declared their opposition to the Khilaafat of Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu). They left Madinatul Munawwarah for Makkatul Mukarramah and from there travelled to Basrah where they rallied men and new supporters.
Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)had to crush all opposition. A bloody battle took place near Basrah on the 9th of December 656 A.C. This battle was sparked off by a third force who were the real troublemakers. Just before the battle, both parties had already reached an agreement to settle the dispute. But this third force, the real assassinators of Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (radi Allahu anhu), launched an overnight attack on both camps simultaneously. Each side were under the impression that the other had attacked. The battle began. Several thousand men were lost including the two Sahaba. Sayyadah Aishah (radi Allahu anha) was safe. She was riding a camel during the battle-hence the name “Battle of the Camel.” Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)treated her in a most noble and dignified manner and respectfully sent her back to Madinatul Munawwarah. She praised him and deeply regretted opposing Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu). Kufa was now made the capital of the Islamic world.
Sayyiduna Muaawiyah (radi Allahu anhu) rallied an army to face Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu). A battle took place at Siffin on the Syrian border in the July of 567 A.C. Sayyiduna Muaawiyah (radi Allahu anhu) was no match for Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)and began to retreat. By the clever proposal of Sayyiduna Amr bin Al As (radi Allahu anhu), the retreating army raised pieces of the Holy Quran on their spears demanding judgement between the two parties. Many pious Muslims on the side of Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)refused to fight seeing the Holy Quran displayed in the air.
Two men, one from each side, were appointed to settle the dispute. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (radi Allahu anhu), a pious Sahaba from Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu’s) side, and the skilled Sayyiduna Amr (radi Allahu anhu) from Sayyiduna Muaawiyah (radi Allahu anhu’s) side. Sayyiduna Musa (radi Allahu anhu) declared in front of the Muslims that it was decided to recommend the removal of both Sayyiduna Ali and Sayyiduna Muaawiyah (radi Allahu anhuma) and that the Muslims should select another man for the Khilaafat. Sayyiduna Amr (radi Allahu anhu) replied that: “He has declared the removal of his leader, while I would conform Muaawiyah as the Caliph.” Chaos followed.
Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)prepared to meet Sayyiduna Muaawiyah (radi Allahu anhu) again in battle, but he was moved from his task by a serious conflict that occurred among his men. Some narrow-minded people accused Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)of accepting a man-made judgement. Their slogan was: “There is no judgment but with Allah.” They declared that Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Muaawiyah and Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (radi Allahu anhumul ajma’in) were unbelievers and that Jihad should be declared against them. Ever since this event, they have been known as the “Khaarijees”, which means, “those who left the fold.” They maintained that the Khilaafat should be given to the most eligible Muslim, regardless of his origin. The Kharijees are not regarded as Muslims.
On the 17th of July 659 A.C., Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)overcame the Khaarijees in a battle near Nahrawan, in which, it is said, that 40 000 lives were lost.
In the early morning of the 24th of January 661 A.C., Abdul Rahman bin Muljim, a Khaariji fanatic lay in ambush in the Masjid of Kufah and stabbed Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)when he entered the musjid. He passed away from the wound. He was 63 years old.
Sayyiduna Ali (Karam Allah Wajhu)lived a simple life. He refused any luxury food and wore simple clothes thinking of the poor. He should sleep on the ground and even sit on the floor. He repaired his own clothes and shoes and even did manual labour. He spent nights in Salaah and should fast for three days in a row. Honesty, piety, justice and love of truth were the main marks of his character.
